Nar-Phu Valley Trek with Kang La Pass Details

Nar-Phu Valley Trek with Kang La Pass
Overview
The Nar-Phu Valley Trek is one of Nepal’s most rewarding off-the-beaten-path adventures. Located in the remote northern part of the Annapurna region, the trek takes you into the hidden valleys of Nar and Phu, where ancient Tibetan-influenced villages, monasteries, dramatic landscapes, and traditional Himalayan lifestyles have been preserved for generations.
The trek combines remote wilderness with a challenging crossing of Kang La Pass, offering spectacular views of the Annapurna range and surrounding Himalayan peaks. It is an excellent choice for trekkers looking for a less-crowded, culturally rich, and adventurous experience away from the more established trekking routes. The Nar-Phu Valley is a restricted trekking area, making it particularly special and requiring a registered guide. The trek is best suited to trekkers with good physical fitness and a sense of adventure.
Highlights
Remote Nar and Phu Valleys
Explore the fascinating and relatively untouched valleys of Nar and Phu, surrounded by dramatic cliffs, deep gorges, high mountains, and Tibetan-style settlements.
Traditional Himalayan Villages
Visit the beautiful villages of Phu and Nar, where traditional stone houses, narrow lanes, prayer flags, chortens, and ancient Buddhist traditions create a unique atmosphere.
Tashi Lhakhang Monastery
Phu is home to Tashi Lhakhang Monastery, an important Buddhist site and a wonderful place to experience the spiritual side of the valley.
Nar Phedi Monastery
Stay overnight at Nar Phedi, where the monastery provides simple accommodation and meals. Spending a night here is one of the most memorable experiences of the trek.
Kang La Pass – 5,410 m
Crossing Kang La Pass is the major adventure of the trek. The climb is demanding because of the altitude and long walking hours, but the panoramic views from the pass make the effort worthwhile.
Fewer Crowds
Compared with the main Annapurna Circuit route, the Nar-Phu Valley sees considerably fewer trekkers, making it ideal for those seeking peace, solitude, and authentic mountain experiences.
Rich Tibetan-influenced Culture
Experience traditional Buddhist culture, local monasteries, prayer wheels, mani walls, traditional architecture, and the unique lifestyle of communities living in this remote Himalayan valley.
Combine with Other Annapurna Treks
The Nar-Phu Valley Trek can also be combined with Tilicho Lake and/or the Thorong La section of the Annapurna Circuit, depending on your available time, interests, and fitness level. This allows us to create a longer and more diverse Annapurna adventure.

These months generally provide the best combination of stable weather, clear mountain views, and suitable trekking conditions.
Trek Difficulty
The Nar-Phu Trek with Kang La Pass is considered moderate to challenging. The main challenges are the remote terrain, long walking days, high altitude, and crossing Kang La Pass at 5,410 m.
Previous high-altitude trekking experience is helpful, although very experienced and physically fit beginners may also complete the trek with a suitable itinerary and proper preparation.
Guide and Porter

A porter is optional, but highly recommended if you prefer to trek comfortably without carrying a heavy backpack. Hiring local guides and porters also directly supports the communities that depend on tourism.
