Overview
The Mardi Himal Trek is one of Nepal’s most beautiful short trekking adventures, offering spectacular Himalayan scenery, peaceful trails, and a wonderful combination of nature and local culture. Starting and ending in Pokhara, the trek can be completed in around 5–7 days, depending on your available time, walking pace, and preferred itinerary. Despite being a relatively short trek, the route takes you from lush subtropical forests to high alpine landscapes, reaching an altitude of around 4,500–4,700 m on the actual Mardi Himal Base Camp.
The trek offers impressive close-up views of Mardi Himal, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and many other Himalayan peaks. It is an excellent choice for both experienced trekkers (warm up) and those looking for their first Himalayan trekking experience.

Spectacular Mountain Views
The Mardi Himal Trek offers some of the closest and most impressive mountain views in the Annapurna region. From the higher ridges and viewpoints, you can enjoy panoramic views of Mardi Himal, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Annapurna I, Lamjung Himal, Dhaulagiri and other surrounding peaks. Diverse Landscapes
One of the most attractive features of this trek is the rapid change in landscapes. The trail passes through Lush forests, Rhododendron and oak forests, Beautiful mountain ridges, Alpine meadows, High-altitude landscapes,Traditional villages and terraced hillsides. During spring, the rhododendron forests are especially beautiful when they are in full bloom.
Peaceful Forest Trails
Much of the route passes through beautiful and peaceful forests. You can enjoy the sounds of birds, fresh mountain air, and, with some luck, glimpses of Himalayan wildlife.
Local Culture and Hospitality
The trek also provides opportunities to experience the lifestyle and hospitality of local communities. For those interested in a deeper cultural experience, homestays in villages such as Lwang and Ghalel can be included as an alternative or extension.
Comfortable Teahouse Trek
Mardi Himal is a teahouse trek, with local trekking-standard lodges available along the main route. The facilities are basic but generally comfortable, and many lodges offer amenities such as Wi-Fi and hot showers, depending on the location and availability.
Itinerary
Day 01: Pokhara – Kande – Lovely Viewpoint Drive & Trek: approx. 5–6 hrs
Enjoy a short drive from your hotel in Pokhara to Kande (approx. 1 hr) and begin trekking through beautiful forests and mountain landscapes. After several hours of walking, reach the Lovely Viewpoint and enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Overnight at a local trekking teahouse. Wi-Fi and hot showers with gas geysers are generally available.
Day 02: Lovely Viewpoint – Low Camp (3,050 m) Trek: approx. 6–7 hrs
Enjoy breakfast with beautiful mountain views before continuing along a trail that passes mainly through peaceful forests. Listen to the sounds of birds and keep an eye out for Himalayan wildlife. As you approach Low Camp, the forest gradually opens up, revealing impressive mountain vistas.
Day 03: Low Camp – High Camp (3,600 m) Trek: approx. 4-5 hrs
One of the most beautiful and rewarding days of the trek. The trail passes through rhododendron forests before reaching the spectacular ridge section, where you can enjoy mountain and valley views on both sides.
Day 04: High Camp – Upper Viewpoint (4,500–4,700 m) – High Camp/Badal Danda Day Hike: approx. 6–8 hrs
Start early for an exciting hike toward the Upper Viewpoint. As you gain altitude, the mountain views become increasingly spectacular, with close-up views of numerous Himalayan peaks and surrounding valleys. Return to High Camp for lunch before continuing downhill toward Badal Danda for approximately 1–2 hours, depending on trail and weather conditions.
Day 05: Badal Danda – Pitam Deurali (2,100 m) Trek: approx. 6–7 hrs
Enjoy a beautiful downhill trek through forests and mountain landscapes toward Pitam Deurali. This is a pleasant day of descending through the changing landscapes of the lower Annapurna region.
Day 06: Pitam Deurali – Dhampus – Phedi – Pokhara Trek: approx. 3 hrs + 30 min drive
Enjoy the morning scenery and breakfast before gradually descending toward Dhampus, a beautiful Gurung village. Continue walking to Phedi, where a private vehicle will pick you up and drive you back to Pokhara in approximately 30 minutes.

Best Time to Trek
The best seasons for the Mardi Himal Trek are:
Spring: March to May
Autumn: September to November
These months generally offer stable weather, clear skies, and excellent mountain visibility. Spring is particularly beautiful because the rhododendron forests are in bloom.
The trek is possible at other times of the year as well, but weather and trail conditions can vary.
Trek Difficulty
The Mardi Himal Trek is considered Easy to Moderate. Although it is relatively short, the trail includes steep ascents and descents, and the Upper Viewpoint reaches a high altitude of around 4,500–4,700 m.
Accommodation and Meals
Accommodation is provided in local trekking-standard teahouses and lodges. Facilities are simple, especially at higher elevations, but the lodges provide a comfortable place to rest and enjoy local hospitality. Meals generally include Dal Bhat, noodles, rice, pasta, soups, eggs, bread, and other local and Western dishes, depending on availability.
Permits
ACAP and TIMS: The required permits for the Mardi Himal Trek are the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card. These can be arranged through a registered trekking company
Accommodation and Meals
During the peak trekking season, especially around major Nepali festivals such as Dashain, Tihar (Diwali), and Nepali New Year, the trail and teahouses can be noticeably busier than usual. Accommodation can become limited, and in some cases, you may be asked to share a room with other trekkers. However, room sharing is not very common on the Mardi Himal route, and with advance accommodation arrangements, it can generally be avoided.
