Essential Information
Best Time to Trek
The best seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), when the weather is generally more stable and mountain views are clearer. Winter is possible but very cold, while the monsoon season can bring rain and flight delays.
Flights & Buffer Days
Flights to and from Lukla are weather-dependent and can be uncertain, particularly during busy seasons. During the main trekking season, flights may operate via Ramechhap Airport instead of Kathmandu. Therefore, we strongly recommend keeping a few buffer days in your Nepal itinerary. This provides flexibility in case of flight delays or cancellations and makes the overall journey safer and more comfortable.
Permits
You need:
Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit
Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit
These can be arranged locally, and you should carry your original passport.
Permits
You need the following permits:
Nar-Phu Restricted Area Permit (RAP)
Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
Accommodation & Meals
The EBC Trek is a teahouse trek, with local lodges providing rooms and meals throughout the route. Compared to many other trekking regions in Nepal, the accommodation and food options in the Everest region are generally better, especially in places like Namche Bazaar.
However, prices are also higher due to the remote location and the high cost of transporting food, fuel, and other supplies to the region. Facilities become more basic and limited as you reach higher elevations.
Guide & Porter
A guide is strongly recommended for safety, navigation, local knowledge, and cultural experience. A porter is optional but can make the trek more comfortable by carrying your main luggage.
Getting to Lukla
During the main season, flights generally operate between Ramechhap and Lukla, requiring a drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap. Alternatively, trekkers with more time can travel overland toward the Everest region.
