Langtang Valley Trek
Overview
The Langtang Valley Trek is one of Nepal’s most beautiful and accessible Himalayan adventures. Located within Langtang National Park, this trek combines spectacular mountain scenery, lush forests, traditional Tamang villages, Buddhist culture, and diverse wildlife.
The trail follows the Langtang Khola through rhododendron, oak, and bamboo forests before reaching the high alpine landscape of the Langtang Valley. With easy access from Kathmandu, the trek is ideal for travelers looking for an authentic Himalayan experience within a relatively short timeframe.

Itinerary
Day 1: Kathmandu – Syabrubesi (1,550 m)
Scenic drive through winding mountain roads and beautiful rural landscapes.
Day 2: Syabrubesi – Lama Hotel (2,380 m)
Trek through beautiful forests of oak, rhododendron, and bamboo along the Langtang Khola.
Day 3: Lama Hotel – Langtang Village (3,430 m)
Continue through forests and traditional mountain settlements toward Langtang Village.
Day 4: Langtang Village – Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m)
Walk through alpine meadows and yak pastures with increasingly impressive mountain views.
Day 5: Exploration Day at Kyanjin Gompa
Explore the area or take an optional hike to Tserko Ri or Kyanjin Ri for panoramic Himalayan views.
Day 6: Kyanjin Gompa – Lama Hotel
Retrace the trail through the beautiful Langtang Valley.
Day 7: Lama Hotel – Syabrubesi
Descend through the forest and return to Syabrubesi.
Day 8: Syabrubesi – Kathmandu
Scenic drive back to Kathmandu, marking the end of the trek.
Essential Information
Best Time to Trek
The best seasons are generally spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). Winter trekking is also possible with appropriate preparation.
Permits
A Langtang National Park entry permit and TIMS card are required.
Accommodation & Meals
Basic but comfortable teahouses and lodges are available along the route, serving local and international meals.
Guides & Porters
A licensed local guide is recommended for safety, navigation, and cultural insights. Porters can be arranged for those who prefer to carry a lighter backpack.
Fitness
A moderate level of fitness is recommended. Regular walking and hiking before the trek will help with preparation.
Altitude and Acclimatization
Proper acclimatization is essential, particularly before crossing Kang La Pass. The planned acclimatization day in Nar provides an important opportunity to adjust to the altitude. Stay hydrated, maintain a comfortable pace, and inform your guide immediately if you experience symptoms of altitude sickness.

- Water purification tablets or filtered water bottle
- Headlamp
- Sunscreen and lip balm
- Camera and chargers
- Power bank (keep it in your hand-carry luggage when flying)
- Lightweight spikes/crampons if required
- Sleeping bag rated around –10°C
