Essential Information
Best Time to Trek
The best seasons for the ABC Trek are:
Spring: March to May
Autumn: September to November
These seasons generally offer stable weather, clear mountain views, and comfortable trekking conditions. Trekking is also possible during the monsoon season, particularly because parts of the Annapurna region receive less rainfall than some other areas of Nepal. However, rain, muddy trails, and leeches can be encountered.
Trek Difficulty
The ABC Trek is a moderate trek. No technical climbing experience is required, but trekkers should be prepared for several hours of walking each day, including steep ascents and descents.
Regular walking, hiking, or cardiovascular exercise before the trek is recommended.
Altitude and Acclimatization
The highest point of the trek is Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 m. Although the altitude is moderate compared with some other Himalayan treks, it is important to walk at a comfortable pace, stay hydrated, and allow your body time to adjust to increasing elevation.
Permits
Trekkers generally need the following permits:
Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card
A registered trekking company can arrange the required permits on your behalf.
